picture of the South from a Northern Perspective

nullyou walk into this place and find your average white southern, little overweight, little underdressed, and a little too happy over BBQ!

This place gives out gallon drinks which is great if you need refills often but it does add to the picture of overweight “americans.” Stacey and I recently went to Sonny BBQ pit which is a decent place for BBQ. However, the times I have walked into the place I have felt out of my comfort. In an unusual world of PORK and OKRA! (I still haven’t tried OKRA yet or did I?)

The wait staff usually consists of older people and a wee-bit unattractive both in facial and bodily features. This Sonny BBQ experience sort of reconfirms the Northern Perspective of the South:
little on the slower side
little on the overweight side
little on the crazy BBQ/Pork fascination
little on the unattractive side

Now, don’t get me wrong…the south has broken some of my previous thoughts and suppositions but it still seems a little weird place to me just like when I walk into Sonny’s BBQ and I still feel that unusual world called the SOUTH!

SONNY'S=SOUTH

Just looking ahead to the future…Wondering?? Is there a chance and possibility for a Subway Series for the NY State.

I might be dreaming but I think there is a possibility for the Mets and the Yankees to replay history. Of course, the Yankees will have to come up as the winners! But it would be awesome to have another subway series though I am no longer in the area. It would be spectacular.

I know the rest of the country probably will not be so interested in a SUBWAY SERIES but us from the Tri-State Area would love that.

Go Yankees!

Sunday Morning Class- Gospel, Culture and Church

Gospel and Culture minus the Church= Parachurch
Gospel and Church minus the Culture= Fundamentalism
Church and Culture minus the Gospel= Liberalism
Gospel and Culture and the Church= Kingdom of God

We find that in parachurch organizations a sense of fulfillment that one does not find in the church. Some would say parachurch organizations exists because the church “has dropped the ball” whether in Men’s Discipleship, Women Ministries, Youth Ministries, Diaconate/Mercy Ministries, etc… The point is that something is catchy or intriguing about these parachurch organizations that cannot be found in a church.

We find that in fundamentalism culture is seen as evil or “devilish” whether that is music or movies. The emphasis here is against anything of “this world” or “culture”. Some say build castles on hilltops so we can see if the pagans are coming up to attack. The point is that something is feared as paradox to the church and gospel within culture. That culture cannot be redeemed or part of the church or gospel.

We find that in liberalism culture is so overemphasized that the gospel is no longer present. Some say that in liberalism the authority of the Word of God is lost. Gospel is no longer about a covenantal relationship between God and his people but rather about a people who are about social services, being relevant, being tolerant, etc… And here find that the Gospel is lacking. One might say why even have a church when tolerance, relevance and culture rule the day!

However, the Kingdom of God embraces all three- Gospel, Culture and Church. With Jesus stating, “I will build my church on that wicked city of Ceasara Phillipa and the gates of Hades will not overcome.” Jesus looking to his disciples and declaring to them (the Church with the Gospel) to take over the culture on that rock. Redeem creation for this is the kingdom of God.

I know what you are thinking…ROOKIE! And you most definitely have that right. I am a rookie at this whole blog world and trying to figure the lingo, the headers, and what else that comes with this field called BLOGGING!

I really don’t know why I started this…I was thinking maybe I should start some type of journaling or expressive way of finding my internals (i.e. emotions, experiences, stories, tragedies, etc…)

So we will see how long this will last? Or is this a fleeting attempt for narcissism.
